Consider The Following Statements To Determine If Counseling May Be Helpful:

  • I feel powerless to resist the urge to view porn.

  • I frequently spend more time or money on porn than I initially intended.

  • I have made many unsuccessful attempts to limit or stop viewing porn.

  • I spend a significant portion of time viewing porn, thinking about porn, or engaging in activities that will enable access to porn.

  • I neglect family, social, or work obligations to view porn.

  • I continue to use porn despite experiencing negative consequences.

  • I pass up opportunities, or consider passing up opportunities, to have more time to use or view porn.

  • I feel anxious, stressed, or irritable if I’m unable to access porn.

Therapy

During therapy sessions individuals learn to recognize, challenge and ultimately, change thoughts and behavioral patterns that fuel their addiction to porn.

Anxiety, depression, trauma, obsessive-compulsive disorder and low self-esteem, are some of the conditions addressed during sessions, as many individuals who struggle with porn addiction also suffer from one or more of these conditions.

Different coping skills and ways to deal with daily obstacles are essential to recovery. During therapy you acquire and implement these tools, since daily stressors are often the driving force behind our need to escape.

Honesty is the key to recovery. During recovery you will learn how to be honest with yourself and others at your own pace. For some, the secret of addiction has been festering for years creating terror and panic that the secret will be exposed at any moment and one will suffer endless shame and humiliation.
